SHE BANKS FIRST MILLION AND SCORES U.S. NO.1 ON SAME DAY!
There were a million reasons for Leona Lewis to celebrate last night.
On the day she heard she was the first British woman to top the US singles charts with a debut release in 21 years, Leona became the first X Factor millionaire.
Leona spent yesterday squealing down the phone to her family and friends from LA as Bleeding Love hit No.1.
She told us: "I am so overwhelmed. Going to No.1 in America is beyond my wildest dreams.
"I called my family to tell them I had got to No1 and my mum started crying down the phone."
Her mentor Simon Cowell is also absolutely thrilled with her success. He said: "I am incredibly proud of Leona. What she has achieved in the past year is simply amazing. I am very very happy for her."
A source said: "Leona has totally won over the Americans. They were in need of a new sweetheart after Britney Spears slipped off the radar and they love her."
And so will her bank manager.
With her first million now safely tucked away, the sky's the limit for the former receptionist from Hackney, East London.
Our source says: "She is going to be a multi-millionairess by the time she is 30.
"The royalty cheques from her UK No.1 have started rolling in and the money from her US success will start piling in about six months.
"She deserves every penny after all the hard work she has put in."
But Leona is putting any spending sprees on hold.
She has been working like a trojan over the past year - touring and promoting - and her gruelling schedule is not letting up just because she has a No1 under her belt.
Instead Leona will have to wait until her 23rd birthday next week for a double blow-out.
Her boyfriend Lou Al-Chama is flying out to New York with her family and friends for the bash next Thursday.
Leona was still coming to terms with her achievement last night.
Kim Wilde was the last British female to top the US charts back in 1987 with You Keep Me Hanging On.
And the last to see her debut single go in at No1 over there was Sheena Easton with Morning Train in 1981 - before Leona was even born!
After spending the next week doing press and promo in LA she'll have a few days off and then will continue her world domination by jetting out to Australia to start all over again.
